PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 55
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“My close friend with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship at the house of God.” (Psalm 55:14)
David is under attack by a fellow believer that was a close friend.
His heart is in anguish and is desperate to flee the misery, to be at rest (vv.4-8).
This makes me wonder about when Jesus followers turn on and against each other.
How devastating it must be when the people meant to walk with you start attacking you.
Jesus came to break down the walls of division (Ephesians 2:11-22).
“For through Jesus we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.” (Ephesians 2:18)
We enjoy sweet fellowship with Jesus as our close friend, and so do they!
What unites us is not agreement on everything, but grace in everything.
Grace unites diverse believers in sweet fellowship at the feet of Jesus.
Grace makes us eager to bless and serve the weaker ones, not to turn against them.
Today in the church there is an increasing animosity and polarization.
People who humbly trust in Jesus are being maligned by those who say they trust in Jesus.
If we trust in Jesus – in his grace – then we need to be gracious to others.
If Jesus welcomes and serves Judas and Peter and us by grace, will we attack them?
PRAYER
Lord, help me to see where someone feels betrayed by me because of my lack of grace. Help me to make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace!
To be betrayed – when a friend or someone who you thought was your friend or someone you trust – betrays you. It hurts deeply. David felt it. There are many things today that can deceive – promise good things but really bring evil. Lord, help me not to be fooled – help me discern and put my trust fully on you. That is where David went: “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken…But as for me, I trust in you.” So when I’m anxious and I suffer betrayal or disappointment – let me not forget to put my full trust on you O Lord!
At all times I need to cast my burdens unto the Lord for He hears my prayers. Only He can provide my safety, a secure place. Only He can rescue me and only He hears my prayers. I need to cast all my cares upon Him. I am never alone. I need to trust Him always and not fear. Faith over fear.
1 Be not dismayed whate’er betide,
God will take care of you;
Beneath his wings of love abide,
God will take care of you.
Refrain:
God will take care of you,
through ev’ry day, o’er all the way;
He will take care of you,
God will take care of you.
2 Through days of toil when heart doth fail,
God will take care of you;
When dangers fierce your path assail,
God will take care of you. [Refrain]
3 No matter what may be the test,
God will take care of you;
Lean, weary one, upon his breast,
God will take care of you. [Refrain]
