PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Numbers 11-12
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“I wish that all the Lord’s people were prophets…” (Numbers 12:29)
I can relate to Moses’s complaint about the burden being too much (11:14).
And my prayer is also that the Spirit would be on, and work through, everyone (11:29)
Yet this is exactly what has happened: God has come to us all through Jesus, in the Spirit.
Jesus is the human face of God, speaking to us as his followers by his Spirit (11:8).
In Jesus we see the form of God, and his Spirit explains the heart of God to us.
This is not just for a select few, like the seminary trained or ordained.
“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people… Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.” (Acts 2:18)
So why do so few people join in the task of serving and leading in Jesus’s work?
Like the people in this story, maybe we do not realize what a privilege we have.
Maybe we are more focused on what we lack, and maybe even grumbling about that.
I wish all the Lord’s people knew that they were prophets, that the Spirit was on them!
I wish all people started carrying the burden of one another, carrying the load together.
Maybe we need to see the face of Jesus again, and realize the wonder of what we have!
PRAYER
Lord, we are blessed to know you, to have your Spirit in us, and to be able to work with you in loving and serving others. Help us to see you, to hear you, and to experience your Spirit working in us!
“Is the Lord’s arm too short?” I often didn’t the Israelites forget the power of their God – and so do we! We like we are on our own – and when we step out on our own without consulting God – praying for guidance – the prompting of the HS – we too set ourselves up for failure. God’s arm is not too short – and He does care. He cares about me and what I do – His HS is given to me – Lord help me to lean on you!
The people were grumbling again. How often do I not count the many blessing of the Lord? I too need to see how He has blessed me and share those blessings with others. I need to be a spirit of His peace. Others need to see see Christ Jesus living in me by my words and deeds.
1 Make me a channel of your peace:
Where there is hatred, let me bring your love;
where there is injury, your healing power,
and where there’s doubt, true faith in you.
2 Make me a channel of your peace:
where there’s despair in life let me bring hope;
Where there is darkness, only light,
and where there’s sadness, ever joy.
3 O, Spirit, grant that I may never seek
so much to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love with all my soul.
4 Make me a channel of your peace:
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
in giving to all that we receive,
and in dying that we’re born to eternal life.
