Is unfailing love failing!?

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 44

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“But now you have rejected and humbled us…” (Psalm 44:9)
I want to stress that these words, though inspired by God, are not true.
They are the psalmists perspective on what is happening, their honest experience.
To me this is important, because it reminds me that I can be honest with God.
I know that my perspective is limited, and that how I see things is always skewed.
I also know that the Lord does not and will not reject us, even if it feels like it.
The Lord inspires this song (for the director or music) to be sung by everyone.
The Lord inspires this honest expression of accusation and abandonment.
Life in this sinful world does not follow the simple rule ‘good people don’t suffer’.
Jesus is proof of that, and also shows how God does NOT abandon us.
For our sake Jesus faced death and was considered as a sheep to be slaughtered.
And in this way he became the lamb that takes away the sin and suffering in this world.
If you are struggling, cry out to Jesus and let his Spirit inspire and strengthen you.
Be honest in prayer – he can take it – for this is faith refusing to let go.
His love is unfailing, even when it feels like it is failing us!
PRAYER
Lord, please rouse yourself, especially for those going through terrible injustice or misery. Let them know and feel the worth of your anchor!

  1. The Psalmist doesn’t indicate why God seems to have deserted his people? “All this came upon us, though we had not forgotten you; we had not been false to your covenant. Our hearts had not turned back; our feet had not strayed from your path. But you crushed us and made us a haunt for jackals; you covered us over with deep darkness.” Was there arrogance or pride or were the people too casual or cosy of their status – that they took God for granted? Is this a test? Should I take God for granted – do I spurn his love for me/Jesus love for me? Do I take Christ’s sacrifice for me too casually? Must I now ‘walk-the-talk’? Did the people in the Psalm not walk the talk – even though they might have followed God’s covenant laws i.e., like Pharisees? Love for God is serious – takes heart not just routine ritual! Keep my heart pure O Lord – may I truly be devoted to you – especially when I’m facing a challenge and it seems that you have forgotten me! I know that that cannot be true!

  2. At all times, I am in the need of prayer. I need to live and show that the Lord my God is my King and my God. My trust is in Him. None other will do. At all times I need to serve the living God. At all times I need to talk with my living God. At all times I need to live for Jesus. He is the answer when things are right. He is the answer when things go wrong. His love for His own is every present. I need to put my hand in His for Him to guide me. That’s love. That’s comfort.
