On what rock?

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 16:13-20

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“On this rock I will build my church!” (Matthew 16:18)
The Roman Catholics say ‘this rock’ is Peter, who made the confession (the Pope).
Another possibility is Peter’s faith, the answer to Jesus’s question.
“The foundation of repentance… and of faith in God” (Hebrews 6:1)
I see Jesus as the foundation and our confidence in Jesus makes us solid (Ephesians 3:19-22).
What stands out especially clear to me is that Jesus builds the church.
So much of our time is spent building the church, when we should be Jesus’s messengers.
Our job is not to build the church but to make disciples (believers); the church is the result.
As we live and serve and witness for Jesus, others are drawn to faith in Jesus.
Not because we convince them but because the Father reveals it to them (16:17)
For me this means less time on church-building and more on faith-building.
To live with, like and for Jesus, binding wounds and loosing prisoners in Jesus’s name!
To demonstrate and declare the Jesus Way of humble loving service to God and people.
Do I trust Jesus when he says he will build his church on this life of faith?
Be a disciple that makes disciples… Jesus will build his church on this rock!
PRAYER
Lord, you see many churches, and much church work, but do you see faith in you? May I be a rock you can use to build then church!

  1. “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven;” That is quite the responsibility! How do people come to know the ‘way’? It is through the faith and testimony of believers. We are a ‘key’ – a way for others to hear about Jesus – to share the way to the kingdom of heaven. How do we do that? The only way I know how is by listening to the leading of the HS – to follow up opportunities to share what Jesus means to me and how he is the key to eternal life. A key unlocks a door or barrier. How do I help unlock the barrier that someone may have? The key has to be there and the lock needs to receive the key. I carry a key – the good news message of Jesus – help me Jesus to share.

  2. Jesus is my Rock, the Cornerstone of my living for Him. All those who believe are living stones built around that corner stone. I am part of the building material for the building of His Kingdom serving Him daily by words and deeds. I too need to answer the question asked and respond as Peter did or as Thomas did after His resurrection – My Lord and my God. May others see Christ Jesus living in me.

    My Jesus My Saviour
Lord There Is None Like You
All Of My Life I Want To Praise
The Wonders Of Your Mighty Love
    My Comfort My Shelter
    Tower Of Refuge And Strength
    Let Every Breath
    All That I Am
    Never Cease To Worship You.

    Shout To The Lord
All The Earth Let Us Sing
Power And Majesty Praise To The King
Mountains Bow Down And The Seas Will Roar
At The Sound Of Your Name
I Sing For Joy At The Work Of Your Hands
    Forever I’ll Love You
    Forever I’ll Stand
    Nothing Compares To The
    Promise I Have In You.
