PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Micah 7
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“You will tread our sins underfoot.” (Micah 7:19)
Micah is overwhelmed by the how bad things have gotten in Israel.
He knows the nation is a cruel and corrupt mess, yet he still has hope.
In v.19 we hear God’s promise from “long ago” (7:20) to send a human saviour.
“He will crush your head, and you (the serpent) will strike his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)
The Lord will step in to restore God’s family by destroying sin, Satan and death.
Despite how bad we are, despite how far we fall, God will have compassion on us.
I hang on to this picture of the crushed serpent when evil seems to flourish.
“Though (we) sit in darkness, the Lord will be (our) light.” (Micah 7:8)
As Jesus followers we do not just wait for the messiah, we join in with him.
We do not bring in God’s kingdom ourselves, but we work with Jesus as he does.
We join with him in resisting sin and refusing Satan, and doing good.
When “summer fruit” (Micah 7:1) is scarce, we add some Spirit fruit.
We have been graced, and now we join with him in crushing evil with grace.
Am I keeping in step with Jesus (Galatians 5:25) by crushing sin with goodness?
PRAYER
Lord, you are gently treading evil with grace and goodness. Help me to keep in step with your Spirit by treading sin underfoot with grace as well.
God keeps His promises – even when things look the most miserable and treacherous. Micah says: “But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.” and further in the passage: “Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.” Things don’t always go well, but God is faithful – I can testify to that through my past – and He is there now and into the future! Lord thank you for your patience with me/your people!
In the dark days, in times like these, my hope is in the Lord Who visits His people. He hears our prayers. He is faithful. He forgives. And I need to be faithful in my living for Jesus. Lead me daily Lord to do Your will.
Savior, like a shepherd lead us,
Much we need Thy tender care;
In Thy pleasant pastures feed us,
For our use Thy folds prepare:
Blessèd Jesus, blessèd Jesus,
Thou hast bought us, Thine we are;
Blessèd Jesus, blessèd Jesus,
Thou hast bought us, Thine we are.
