my own song of praise

SCRIPTURE: 2 Samuel 22
OBSERVATION/APPLICATION:
David sang to the LORD the words of this song when the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. [2 Samuel 22:1] Lord, I sense in David a deep awareness that his success and security are in You, because of You. He sees the circumstances in his life from a God-perspective. He recalls the tough times, and thanks You for the ways in which You helped him.

What I take from this psalm is the need to reflect on my own life from a God-perspective, to look for how You have been with me through my ups and downs. And I need to express my appreciation, perhaps to write it out in a psalm as well.

Lord, I think of how You found strength in God when You were going through the final days of agony. Your disciples would abandon You, but You were not alone: “But a time is coming, and has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. [John 16:32]. This is the sense that I get from David in the psalm too. When all hell is breaking out against him, he finds strength, support and ultimately help from God.

The words of David could very well be spoken by You, when You were crucified, then raised to life: “He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. [2 Samuel 22:17-20]

David uses poetic language in this psalm to describe how You rescued him. What if I would see my life, and Your hand in my life, in more poetic, dramatic ways. You are protecting me, You are working through me, You are impacting the world and people around me, through me. You are staying the hand of Satan, thwarting his intentions, and establishing Your kingdom through my weak efforts. I am not alone, You are over me, with me, in me!

PRAYER:
Lord, David is inspiring me to reflect on my own life from a God-perspective. I want to spend time today expressing my praise and gratitude!
