PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Ezekiel 1-2
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord.” (Ezekiel 1:28)
What Ezekiel sees is not actually God, but how God chooses to be seen.
The various symbols in this vision express a God that cannot be comprehended.
At best, what Ezekiel saw was the ‘appearance’ of the ‘likeness’ of the ‘glory’.
In other words, these words only give us a hint of the awesomeness of God.
Jesus is also “the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord.”
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)
But the glorious truth about God is seen in a humble human, awesome in a different way.
Jesus reveals the awesomeness of grace, mercy and love, of compassion and kindness.
We have seen God’s glory in Jesus, and this glorious goodness is in us and with us.
The Spirit of glory is upon us, and we join with Jesus in revealing God’s glory.
We reflect God’s glory of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, etc. (Galatians 5:22-23)
Like Ezekiel, we are called to a challenging task, but we do not stand alone.
As Jesus followers we live and serve in the strength of our vision of the Lord!
PRAYER
Lord, help me to see you standing over me, with me, and in me. Help me to share my vision of you, so that others may see the glory of God as seen in you!
Ezekiel sees a vision of bright and mighty creatures and an awesome vault – with the voice of the Almighty – He needs to see a glorious vision of God – for he is going to be carrying messages to God’s people – he needs inspiration. We do need to revel in God’s awesomeness so that we don’t just take God for granted. See the mountains and stunning vistas – just serves to remind me how awesome God the creator is! It stimulates praise – and it also makes me more desirous to be a faithful servant of His!
