PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 12:42-48
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“From the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” (Luke 12:48)
Jesus uses the master/servant analogy to explain how we relate to God.
God put us in charge as creation partners (see Genesis 1:26-28).
Humans blew it, and continue to rampage and ruin God’s creation kingdom.
Jesus comes as Adam, makes things right, and puts his followers in charge.
As Jesus followers we are the servants in charge, waiting for his return.
But are we doing the work he assigned, or serving ourselves and our own comfort?
Those who know better (leaders, teachers, more mature disciples) will be judged more strictly.
Those who do not know better (misled disciples, non christians) will be judged less strictly.
The violent punishment is part of the analogy, not literally what the Lord will do.
But the seriousness of the judgment is real for those who have been entrusted much.
The Lord entrusted me with much: education, opportunity, faith, health, wealth, security.
What am I doing with it, and am I using it for his purpose or my own?
The Lord is reminding me I am a steward, and I will one day report on what I did with it all.
How am I using the time, talents and treasures the Lord has entrusted to me?
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for the reminder of HOW MUCH you have blessed me, and HOW MUCH you want me to bless others with what you have blessed me!
“From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded”. I’m part of the white wealthy segment of the world’s population – we have much – much will be demanded. Having worked with many poor – I know you need skills, aptitude and resources to be able to have an income to provide for one’s family and needs. I have more than enough – how can I use my resources to bless others – to help them to be all that God meant them to be. I do that by sharing, by acting in sharing what I’ve been given to bless others. Still I have a lot – yet God continues to entrust me with more – which means more to share! Lord help me to be generous – not just because you demand it – but that my heart wants me to –
I am created to serve. God created each with talents/gifts to be used in Kingdom service. I need to be faithful to Him and use those gifts to serve Him. He has enabled me to be a servant and I need to used those talents in His service. All for Jesus.
