Aug 28 — Psalm 9:1-20

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 9:1-20

OBSERVATION:
In the context of volatile political and personal crises, David affirms that the Lord is God (in control, sovereign) and is good (just, helps the oppressed). Can we even understand the world in which David lived, more like the instability of the Sudan, eastern Europe in the 90s, Afganistan, Palestine, Iraq, most of Africa? In this kind of instability, David clings in hope to God’s justice and mercy.

APPLICATION:
Have we become spiritual wimps? Have I? When we grumble about minor inconveniences, petty injustices, trivial differences, are we not revealing our shallow spirituality? It raises the question, do I (we) really trust God, if I do not trust Him through the tough times? Do I have a fairweather faith?

PRAYER:
Lord, I do sense the shallowness of my faith, and I want it to be deeper. Lead me deeper into a confidence that shows itself in tough times. Amen.

  1. The start of this psalm reminds me of the ’12 memory stones’ placed beside the waters – And what do these stones mean? To tell the future generations of the praise worthy deeds of our God. Help me today Lord to do just that. You are my God and my my actions and voice will praise You as I live for Jesus.

    The Psalmist also reminds me that God is my refuge and strength and will never forsake me. That’s comfort! The happenjngs of the day need to draw me closer to Him! Many spend their time living for themselves and persecuting others. They have forgotten their Maker. As people of God we need to see the Hand of God in all things and all things should bring us closer to God for He is our salvation! My main desire is to live for Jesus.

    Lord, help me share Your failthfulnes to me with those around me, Help me to sing praises to Your name this name.

    My song forever shall record
    The tender mercies of the Lord;
    Thy faithfulness will I proclaim,
    And every age shall know Thy Name.

    I sing of mercies that endure,
    Forever builded firm and sure,
    Of faithfulness that never dies,
    Established changeless in the skies.
