June 20 — Psalm 127

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 127

OBSERVATION:
This Psalm expresses the vanity of ‘going it alone’, striving to succeed in our own strength. We do need to ‘build’ and ‘watch’, but it is pointless unless we are relying on Him to establish our efforts (Psalm 90:17). The Lord grants sleep (or provides, see note) for those He loves (i.e. trust in Him). One example is the strength in numbers He provides through family (and friends).

APPLICATION:
God has provided amazing support for me here. I am not working alone, God is alongside of me, and has provided me a great family, and church family. I can rest in peace, not frantically striving at the ‘city gates’, knowing that I am surrounded, supported. I need to recall this the next time I go through a valley or a battle: lean on God, and on those He provides!

PRAYER:
Lord, thank You for working in and through me, for establishing the weak efforts of my hands. And thank You for the many supporters You place alongside of me as we ‘contend at the city gates.’ Amen.
