Mar 5 — Psalm 25:1-22

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 25:1-22

OBSERVATION:
David is asking the Lord to support him against those who are persecuting him, he asks the Lord to keep him from being shamed.
Pleads for God’s help so that he will respond appropriately to his attackers, with integrity (v.21).
He also acknowledges that he is a sinner, and therefore doesn’t deserve God’s help
Asks on the basis of God’s character (vv.6-11), not his own worthiness (v.7).
David is very honest about his struggle, but he reminds himself through this prayer of God’s power, love and mercy.
Finishes with an appeal to God to rescue His covenant people from all troubles (v.22).

APPLICATION:
Often we respond to tough times by questioning God’s goodness or love; David reaffirms God’s goodness and love through his crisis.
Pride leads many to question God in tough times, but a humble spirit admits their weakness and pleads for mercy and help.
We have lost our sense of God’s holy goodness, we are like spoiled brats who don’t get our way and yell at our servant for not getting us what we want.
This Psalm shows the kind of spirit we need to have when we go through tough times.

PRAYER:
Lord, forgive me for whining and complaining when I go through tough times. Help me to be honest, but help me also to be humble, and to remind myself of Your good character, and trust in You for mercy and help. Amen.

  1. Each and every day, I too, need to start the day as the Psalmist states – Show me Your ways Oh Lord. teach me Your paths; guide me in Your truth and teach me for You are God my Saviour. Even though my sin is very great, God’s grace is greater because He will instruct me in the way I should go. I must have the upward look all the time knowing that my Help comes from God.

In my daily struggle, my eyes must focus on God. I must take refuge in Him so that may be a person of integrity. Since I am rooted in His Word, since He is my God, my Redeemer, may I daily walk with Him through the dark valleys, through the times of difficulties, in my distress, in my loneliness knowing that it is well with my soul. My redeemer lives!
