SCRIPTURE: Romans 16:1-16

OBSERVATION:

Paul lists the many Christians he knows in Rome, including Priscilla and Aquilla, and Phoebe, a female deacon (servantess)?

Paul is very affirming, he sees people as partners, as fellow workers in Christ.

The work of the church is not limited to the hands of a few (not just men, not just the ‘ordained’), it is an expression of the priesthood of all believers.

The kiss still survives in the Near Eastern culture as a sign of love, respect, and reverence.  A “holy” kiss is mentioned 4x in the New Testament (also 1 Thessalonians 5:26; 1 Corinthians 16:20; 2 Corinthians 13:12). It is a greeting in the Lord, as a part of their fellowship in Christ. Judas’ kiss of Jesus does not quality as a holy kiss (Mark 14:44-45).

Who are the partners I am thankful for?

Do I see myself as a ‘one man show’, or do I see this as a team effort.

When and how do I express appreciation?

PRAYER:

Lord, help me to express my gratitude to the many wonderful partners in the gospel that you have put in my life. I am not alone, You have surrounded me with an amazing support team, and together we are experiencing Your blessing and direction. As I think about colleagues in ministry who find themselves alone, unsupported, I can only say “thank You” from the depth of my heart. Amen.
