PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 45
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king.” (Psalm 45:1)
When a king in ancient Israel celebrated a special event, a song was often written.
This psalm was for a royal wedding (with polygamy, there were many weddings).
This ‘song for the king’ is written from the bride’s point of view.
She is moved by how fortunate she is as the bride of the king.
As the king’s bride, she and her children will be honored and blessed by all.
This psalm sheds insight on how a person can feel as part of God’s royal family.
Hmm… as a Jesus follower I am a child of God, and a brother to Jesus the Messiah.
With some minor adjustments, this song could be sung for me too.
Not boasting but appreciating the wonder of my relationship with God and Jesus.
Maybe I should write a song too, about how amazing it is to be a child of God!
As the bride of Christ (a biblical symbol), we are also fortunate to know Jesus.
As a Jesus follower, write a 5 line poem about your relationship to Jesus.
Nothing fancy or poetic, but sincere lines that express how your heart is stirred.
You don’t have to share it with anyone, but share it with the Lord!
PRAYER
Lord, I want to spend some time today writing a song for You. Not just a syrupy love song, but something that expresses how much You mean to me.
Take time to smell the roses – as the saying goes. Vacation times are also times when I take more time to appreciate the beauty around me. Looking out my bedroom window and see flowers bloom from an upstairs vantage point. I need to take the time – there is so much to appreciate – even in times when my thoughts are elsewhere – thinking about issues and challenges people are facing.
Jesus you are my light
You have made me right
You have restored me with my heavenly Father
And given me hope to go farther
Each day with you and even night
As I live for you my light.
In the stars His handiwork I see,
On the wind He speaks with majesty,
Though He ruleth over land and sea,
What is that to me?
I will celebrate Nativity,
For it has a place in history,
Sure, He came to set His people free,
What is that to me?
Till by faith I met Him face to face,
and I felt the wonder of His grace,
Then I knew that He was more than just a
God who didn’t care,
That lived a way out there and
Now He walks beside me day by day,
Ever watching o’er me lest I stray,
Helping me to find that narrow way,
He’s Everything to me.
