PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 40
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” (Psalm 40:2)
The psalmist had experienced God’s resurrection power before.
Now he looks to God to do it again: “Come quickly, Lord, to help me!” ((Psalm 40:13)
Our confidence in God is not just when things are going well or easy.
Through faith in God, we hang on even when life is hard or awful.
Belief in God is a worldview, a way of looking at life and reality.
Depending on the God you believe in, your worldview can be positive or negative.
I believe in the God that Jesus represents: the God of humble love and radical grace.
The God of forgiveness, patience, humility, self-sacrificing death and resurrection hope.
The psalmist believed in this God too, even though he did not know Jesus.
He believed in a God of mercy, a God that is concerned for the meek and lowly.
He believed in a God that will eventually step in to help, to save.
And God did… by sending Jesus to defeat Satan, sin, death and hell!
Through Jesus God has given us a firm place to stand.
From this place, we can stand firm through all the storms of life.
PRAYER
Lord, You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains. You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas. I am strong, when I am on your shoulders. You raise me up, to more than I can be!
God – the faithful one, the rescuer! David experienced God’s rescue many times. God is faithful. When I look back in life’s experiences I too can testify in God’s faithfulness. In the present and in the future, I must wait patiently and expectantly – that God cares and listens to my needs – He will answer appropriately. God is faithful – dependable!
God listens.
At all times I am in His presence.
At all times I need to do His will. I need to see His presence daily and tell of His goodness and faithfulness. In the good times and in the bad times God is my Redeemer King. He reigns.
My feet need to be firmly planted – planted in in His Word – living daily in His presence and living in His SonShine. Open my eyes Lord that I may see You always.
Always with us, always with us,
Words of cheer, and words of love;
Thus the risen Savior whispers,
From His dwelling place above.
With us when we toil in sadness,
Sowing much, and reaping none;
Telling us that in the future
Golden harvests shall be won.
With us when the storm is sweeping,
O’er our pathway dark and drear;
Waking hope within our bosoms,
Stilling every anxious fear.
With us in the lonely valley,
When we cross the chilling stream;
Lighting up the steps to glory
With salvation’s radiant beam.
