The right side of your ‘But!’

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 13

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

THE STORY OF JESUS: Psalm 13
“But I trust in your unfailing love…” (Psalm 13)
This one word ‘but’ is the critical turning point in this song.
The psalmist is genuinely troubled, feeling abandoned and unloved and defeated.
The word ‘but’ is this persons attempt to direct their thinking to hope.
They do not deny their situation… BUT I will trust, I will rejoice, I will sing!
Our soul will follow our mind; if our mind looks downward, our whole being will follow.
Consider these two sentences:
— ‘The Lord has been good to me… BUT I HAVE SORROW IN MY HEART!
— ‘I have sorrow in my heart… BUT THE LORD HAS BEEN GOOD TO ME!
If the negative follows the BUT, that’s where I soul stays.
Pay attention to your thoughts and conversations, where are they landing?
Which side of your ‘but’ is hope, and you ending in hope or despair?
This is a battle, it is spiritual warfare, and the enemy wants you to end with despair.
Take up the sword of hope and slay the beast of defeat and despair.
We all fall on our butts in life, but choose to land on the right side of your ‘but’.
PRAYER
Lord, I can relate to these mind battles, I go through them all the time. I know the struggle will continue, BUT I WILL TRUST YOU, I WILL OVERCOME, FOR YOU HAVE BEEN GOOD TO ME!

  1. Persevere – I know my God has taken me through in the past, is faithful now even if I may feel abandoned at times and will be in the future. It’s in the time of trials I know my Jesus is carrying me – and therefore the refrain resonates with me: “my heart rejoices in your salvation, I will sing the Lord’s praise, for He has been good to me!”

  2. Where do I go with my cries?
When do I go to the Lord?
Where do I go with all my struggles?
Bring it all to the Lord.
Let others see that at all times God is walking beside me always. He is my Rock. He is my foundation. Take it all to the Lord in prayer.

What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
    What a privilege to carry
    Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
    Everything to God in prayer!

    Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

    Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Savior, still our refuge—
    Take it to the Lord in prayer;
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
    Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.
