A Lord worth following!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 12

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Who is lord over us?” (Psalm 12:4)
We live in a time when many people reject any God or Lord but themselves.
If you are familiar with the Book of Judges, you’ll know it describes a messed up time in history.
It concludes, “In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.” (Judges 21:25)
David is describing a similar period, when people were rejecting God as their authority.
Some say that the root of problems today is not ‘no God’ but God and religion.
But it is humans, not God, that ignore or abuse the weak and twist God to their purposes.
The ‘God’ of terrorists and judgmental christians is not the God of Jesus Christ.
They have made God in their own image, instead of in the image of Jesus.
Jesus shows us how God loves and cares for and protects the weak (v.7).
As a Jesus follower, we declare that Jesus is Lord over us!
This means we not only believe He saves us, but He leads us and we follow Him!
If we are self-serving and ignore the poor and weak, we are not following Jesus.
I am convinced many reject God and Jesus because of how His followers behave.
As we love and help the poor and needy like Jesus, we show the world a Lord worth following!
PRAYER
Lord, You are Lord over me. Help me not just to say this, but to have this statement change how I live and spend my life. May others see You through me as a Lord worth following.

  1. When I first starting reading the psalm for today I thought I was reading something that could have been written today! Evil has not changed, only its’ format. But the Lord is still our Saviour and will free us from all this evil. May we never forget that!

  2. “…the words of the Lord are flawless,like silver purified in the crucible, like gold refined seven times” – the is the bedrock on which we depend! Mankind’s words need to be tested and often come far short – impure, hypocritical, deceptive, selfish and arrogant. Our faith is on the living word, Jesus. The psalm reassures us of this foundation – the Lord will protect us forever from the wicked. Thank you Jesus even though at times I see believers persecuted by the wicked – help me always to see beyond the what is to what will be- and to walk in the truth – led by the same heartfelt desire to help others.

  3. Many today live by their own rules.
    Self serving. A law unto themselves. Doing what is right in their own eyes.
    A me first generation.
    But Christ followers need to stay faithful to His Word
    and continue their lives of service
    living for Jesus
    for His Word is true
    giving hope, and Life eternal.

    O Jesus, I have promised to serve Thee to the end;
    Be Thou forever near me, my Master and my Friend;
    I shall not fear the battle if Thou art by my side,
    Nor wander from the pathway if Thou wilt be my Guide
    .
    Oh, let me hear Thee speaking in accents clear and still,
    I dare not trust my judgment: Thy way shall be my will;
    Oh, speak to reassure me, to hasten or control;
    Oh, speak, and help me listen, Thou Guardian of my soul.

    O Jesus, Thou hast promised to all who follow Thee
    That where Thou art in glory there shall Thy servant be;
    And Jesus, I have promised to serve Thee to the end—
    Oh, give me grace to follow, my Master and my Friend.

    Oh, let me see Thy footprints, and in them plant mine own;
    My hope to follow duly is in Thy strength alone;
    Oh, guide me, call me, draw me, uphold me to the end;
    And then in Heav’n receive me, my Savior and my Friend.

  4. Lord Jesus you are my only comfort in life and in death. You redeemed me, preserves me, protects me, and sent thy Holy Spirit to dwell in me to empower, enable, and guide me to live as your follower.
    May I be found faithful so that many more will follow you.
