Shut up, Satan!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 6

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Away from me, all you who do evil, for the Lord has heard my weeping.” (Psalm 6:8)
God inspired David to express his raw, real emotions.
God wants us to see David struggling, doing battle against his tormentors.
Notice how David yells at them, “Away from me!”
I’m reminded of Jesus firmly stating, “Get behind me Satan!” (Matthew 16:23)
James also urges us to “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)
Come to God humbly and desperately, just as you are, emotions and all.
But do not come to the Enemy this way, stand up to him and put him in his place.
You don’t have to pretend that it is easy, but don’t see it as hopeless.
Satan wants to convince you that he has the upper hand.
If he can get you to submit to his lies, he knows you won’t submit to God’s truth.
Like Jesus, submit honestly and humbly to God (“my God, my God, why have You forsaken me?”).
Like Jesus, resist the devil with boldness and hope (“get behind me Satan”).
In other words, worship God (He is the greatest!), not Satan (he is not!).
“The Lord has heard my cry for mercy; the Lord accepts my prayer.” (Psalm 6:9)
PRAYER
Lord, You are on my side, even when it seems no one else (or nothing else) is. With You I say, ‘shut up Satan, I belong to Jesus!’

  1. In our daily living for Jesus, in our joys and sorrows, in days that all seems to go well or days when all things fall apart, our heart of the matter is -have mercy upon me Lord – take it all – the ups and downs – to the Lord in prayer. Share all.

What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
    What a privilege to carry
    Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
    Everything to God in prayer!

    Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

    Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Savior, still our refuge—
    Take it to the Lord in prayer;
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
    Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

  2. I wish I never doubted God mercy – I know I must ‘tire’ out God – but then I realize He doesn’t get tired. I come through something I was really stressed out about – lost sleep over it and put it to prayer through the night – and God came through. Looking back – I see it – why then looking forward do I get anxious – will this be the time God won’t come through? Seems absurd when I express it.
Holy Spirit, hang on – keeping reminding me and guiding me – let me not be overcome by my own concerns and anxieties but instead walk confidently in the light of your presence.
