THE STORY OF JESUS: Mark 10:35-45
“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.” (Mark 10:43)
Here we see Jesus’s understanding and pattern for good leadership.
A leader is responsible to guide people towards God’s agenda.
Not to force people, nor to force people towards their own agenda.
It is for God and the people, and not for themselves, that they lead.
Leadership is not a way to become great, it is a way to help others.
Our self-centered hearts have twisted leadership (like everything else):
To get glory, power, freedom to do as we please, and the acclaim of others.
This is not how Jesus leads; He becomes our servant to help us!
What does it mean for us as leaders (parent, teacher, church leader, supervisor, manager, employer, politician, peer leader, etc.)?
To some extent we all lead, and this is a responsibility, not a privilege.
I must serve, help, bless those I am responsible for, and deny myself.
This does not make me small, but it is how I become truly become great!
Practically speaking, how am I serving those I lead?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, this is not just a theory, it is a practice. Help me to focus on serving, even sacrificing, so that others may be helped and blessed.
Jesus came to serve
and as His follower, I too need to serve.
Two things came to mind.
The first was not to insist upon your own way but to live at peace with all mankind. Have Thine own way Lord. He is in charge and not I.
The second is the JOY principle – Jesus first – Others second – Yourself last. It is only through His power and grace I can do this. Servant leadership. Be a foot washer.
SpiritLed.
Walking in His SonShine because God reigns.
Will you let me be your servant
Let me be as Christ to you
Pray that I might have the grace
To let you be my servant too
We are pilgrims on the journey
We are travellers on the road
We are here to help each other
Walk the mile and bear the load
I will hold the Christ light for you
In the night time of your fear
I will hold my hand out to you
Speak the the peace you long to hear.
I will weep when you are weeping
When you laugh, I’ll laugh with you
I will share your joy and sorrow
Till we’ve seen this journey through
Will you let me be your servant
Let me be as Christ to you
Pray that I might have the grace
To let you be my servant too
