Following Jesus through the bible

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 1
“Blessed is the one… who meditates on his law day and night.” (Psalms 1:2)
What is the key to a blessed (or happy, or full) life?
Ultimately, the key is living as God designed and created us to live.
Adam and Eve (and us with them) have tried to find happiness in other ways.
Our problem is we fill our minds (meditate) with alternative ways and goals.
This psalm is not calling us to be bible nerds, reading the bible all the time.
But it is urging us to make the wisdom of God as found in the bible our priority.
In any situation, how does God want us to be, what does God want us to do?
We can’t know this unless we spend time reflecting on what He has revealed to us.
God has inspired the authors of the bible to record what they did for our benefit.
In every story, teaching, command, etc. there is wisdom to be found, and followed.
We do more than just read and then forget it, we look intently into it (James 1:22-25).
We look for life lessons, wisdom principles, examples to follow, or not.
Jesus wants to teach, rebuke, correct and train me for good living (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
But He can’t do this if I am not taking the time with Him in the bible to listen.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, going my own way is foolish and ultimately unfulfilling. Thank You for speaking to me through the bible; help me to not merely listen, but to do what it says!

  1. As an earthly father guides his children so my heavenly Father guides me in my living for Him. Do this and live is what the Master says. And in order to know what He says I need to read His Word to be in tune with Him. My daily walk must be in His SonShine and to do that I need His guidance – starting he day and ending the day with Him.

Come thou fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing thy grace
    Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
    Teach me some melodious sonnet
    Sung by flaming tongues above
I’ll praise the mount I’m fixed upon it
    Mount of thy redeeming love

    Here I raise my Ebenezer
Hither by thy help I come
And I hope by thy good pleasure
    Safely to arrive at home

Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wondering from the fold of God
He, to rescue me from danger
    Interposed His precious blood

O to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be!
Let thy goodness like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above
