THE STORY OF JESUS: Acts 1:1-11
“I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach…” (Acts 1:1)
The four stories about Jesus tell us about Jesus’ time on earth.
Now Luke (the author of Acts, see Luke 1:1-4) is writing the sequel.
The book of Acts follows up on what Jesus began to do and teach.
Not only that, He is still working through His followers today.
We are the continuation, the sequel to Jesus’s life on earth.
We are His hands and voice, bringing His message to the world.
This is made possible through the Spirit of Jesus at work in us.
This is what the book of Acts highlights, how the Spirit works.
We should see our own lives as a continuation of this book.
We are the Acts 29 movement of Jesus followers, the next chapter.
“The word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power.” (Acts 19:20)
The message of Jesus is continuing to spread and grow in power.
We are bringing good news to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8).
How are you continuing what Jesus began to do and teach?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, you have sent me to this time and place, to who I am with, and to where I go each day. May Your message spread and grow in power through me!
‘You will be my witnesses.’
And the story of Jesus continues through His disciples whom He empowered. God uses His own to continue the Story that Jesus Christ is the answer. His disciples were sent then. His disciples/followers are sent today to tell the Story. All of His followers are living letters, showing that He is alive and that His Kingdom is coming one day in full. We, you and I are living letters, epistles, read by all who meet us wherever we are. We are His witnesses today and always by our living for Jesus. He empowers us to continue to tell the Story of Jesus and His love.
1
I love to tell the story
Of unseen things above,
Of Jesus and His glory,
Of Jesus and His love.
I love to tell the story,
Because I know ’tis true;
It satisfies my longings
As nothing else can do.
I love to tell the story,
’Twill be my theme in glory
To tell the old, old story
of Jesus and His love.
2
I love to tell the story;
More wonderful it seems
Than all the golden fancies
Of all my golden dreams,
I love to tell the story,
It did so much for me;
And that is just the reason
I tell it now to thee.
3
I love to tell the story;
’Tis pleasant to repeat
What seems each time I tell it,
More wonderfully sweet.
I love to tell the story;
For some have never heard
The message of salvation
From God’s own holy Word.
4
I love to tell the story;
For those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting
To hear it like the rest.
And when, in scenes of glory,
I sing the new, new song,
’Twill be the old, old story,
That I have loved so long.
