Beware of greed – yes, me!

THE STORY OF JESUS: Luke 12:13-21
“Life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” (Luke 12:15)
Most people I know would agree with this statement.
We all ‘know’ that money cannot buy happiness.
Yet we still spend or invest our wealth as if it will.
We are willing consumers in a consumeristic society.
We fight or work hard to get more, or to get our fair share.
We turn to Jesus, trusting that He came so we could be ‘blessed’.
Some people act as if their wealth were a blessing, not a responsibility.
We offer our percent to God, but keep the lionshare for ourselves.
We do not live as if we believe that life consists of generosity.
What could I spend less on, that I would have more to give.
Do I see my surplus as mine to spend as I please, for my comfort or pleasure?
Do I give to be generous, or to maximize my tax return?
As a Jesus follower, I am a steward of God’s abundant grace to me.
All that I am and have is mine to share, to bless others… will I?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, in the business of life, the higher the overhead (what I need to maintain myself), the lower the profit (joy, life). Expose the greed that lives in me, and stretch me towards greater generosity!
