THE STORY OF JESUS: Luke 1:34-38
“For no word from God will ever fail.” (Luke 1:37)
This passage makes me think of the creation story.
God speaks, and His word has power; everything is created.
The Spirit moves as the Word of God is spoken; humanity is created.
As the Spirit overshadows the dust, Adam the son of God is formed.
This birth announcement is a new beginning, the beginning of re-creation.
The same God that formed everything WILL renew everything.
He has promised, and when He says something, it happens!
I hang on to the hope that no promise from God will ever fail.
He will be with me until He is finished with me… He promised!
As a Jesus follower, I go through many times of trial or trouble.
And yet in those times, the Spirit overshadows me too.
I sense His comforting presence strengthening and encouraging me.
Like Mary, His work in my life may seem unbearable, impossible.
But He has promised; His word will not fail, He will see it through.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I cling to Your promise that ONE DAY all things will work out for good. I am Your servant, may Your word to me be fulfilled!
Mary responded, ‘I am the Lord’s servant’ reminds me of Samuel saying, ‘Speak Lord for Your servant is listening.’
Am I listening to His voice?
God expects us to respond willingly and obediently. Trustingly. When the Lord speaks He also enables with the help and strength and means to respond.
I need to stand on the promises of God saying yes to His will and plan for my life.
Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.
2
Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.
3
Standing on the promises I now can see
Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.
4
Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.
5
Standing on the promises I shall not fall,
List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call.
Resting in my Savior as my All in all,
Standing on the promises of God.
I am always drawn to Mary’s words in this passage. In the previous passage she was troubled, but she hears God’s word and so readily accepts it. She doesnt run and ask the opinion of everyone she knows, or spend weeks trying to make a decision, she just responds with acceptance of God’s call.
Prayer: God you know my heart, and know that I’m more likely to try my own path first or run away from your call. I pray that you would work in my mind to calm my fears and work in my heart to make me more open to you!
