THE STORY OF JESUS: Luke 1:26-33
“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.” (Luke 1:32)
This verse stands out to me, how the angel describes Mary’s baby.
Every parents sees their baby as special to them.
But do they see them as great, as special to God, a precious child?
The phrase ‘son of God’ was used to describe someone who was good, like God.
Did the soldier describe Jesus as “son of God” (Mark 15:39) or “righteous man” (Luke 23:47)?
The answer is both, because both mean the same thing.
Adam was ‘son of God’ (Luke 3:38), because he was righteous, in God’s image.
Jesus comes as Adam (human being, seed of woman) to crush the serpent (Genesis 3:15).
He reclaims humanity’s throne (Genesis 1:26-28), and makes humanity great again.
For me, Jesus is the best picture of what I am supposed to be.
What the angel says about Jesus reminds me of what God wants to say about me.
As a Jesus follower, I am being made great and good again – like Jesus!
How God sees Jesus is how God wants to see me…
And because of the greatness and goodness of Jesus, this is how God sees me!!!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, when I see You, I see me as I’m supposed to be. You are great and You are good. Thank You for helping me become great and good again, like God made me to be!
Mary’s response to the angel was different than Zechariah’s response. Although troubled she saw herself as His servant following His way for her life. She hears the message in wonderment. Trusting what she heard she went onward living for Jesus. No in doubt but wondering why she had been selected for a task like this. How was this possible.
God supplies.
Trust.
The Lord gives what is needed to be His follower doing His will. He fulfills our needs.
1 Grace and truth shall mark the way
Where the Lord His own will lead,
If His word they still obey
And His testimonies heed.
2 For Thy Name’s sake hear Thou me,
For Thy mercy, Lord, I wait;
Pardon my iniquity,
For my sin is very great.
3 He who walks in godly fear
In the pat of truth shall go;
Peace shall be his portion here,
And his sons all good shall know.
4 They that fear and love the Lord
Shall Jehovah’s friendship know;
He will grace to them accord,
And His faithful covenant show.
