Grace and truth through Jesus!

THE STORY OF JESUS: Numbers 30-32
“Save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.” (Numbers 31:18)
There are parts of the bible that make me cringe.
Like how the father/husband can nullify the woman’s vows.
Or how the soldiers could keep young virgins for plunder.
“This is the word of the Lord?” and “Thanks be to God?”
There are things in the Law of Moses that I do not see as God’s eternal will.
Jesus seemed to think so too, like when He talked about divorce.
“Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning.” (Matthew 19:8)
In other words, what Moses wrote re. divorce in the Law was not God’s eternal will.
Whatever I read in the bible I read through the lens of Jesus.
Jesus shows us the heart of the Law, and releases us from the weaknesses of the Law.
“You have heard that it was said… But I tell you…” (Matthew 5:38-39)
Jesus reveals God’s equal love for male and female, young and old, rich and poor.
“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, reinforce Your grace and truth in our hearts, and set us free from legalism and misreading the bible. Help us to listen to the “But I tell you” parts!
