Creation rest

THE STORY OF JESUS: Matthew 11:25-30
“All things have been committed to me by my Father.” (Matthew 11:27)
Jesus was not the first one who could say these words.
Adam and Eve could have said the same, in the beginning (Genesis 1:26-28).
Back then they were God’s children, God’s image-bearers (See Genesis 5:1-3).
They were revealing (reflecting as image-bearers) the Father to creation.
They were entrusted all things, to rule and care for creation.
And they were the ones who experienced and enjoyed God’s rest on the seventh day.
But they also lost it, and the world was plunged into chaos and misery – a cosmic mess.
God’s plan was always to send a human Messiah (Genesis 3:15) who would defeat the devil.
To do this, the Messiah had to be like God – loving, gracious, patient, humble.
Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the way Adam and Eve were supposed to be.
He has restored Adam’s role, and He has received God’s peace, and can offer it to us.
If rebellion lost us our soul’s peace, submission to God and Jesus will restore it.
But the key is to stop being full of ourselves, like the devil.
We need to become like humble children, if we want to see God and Jesus for Who they are.
We need to learn from Jesus how rest is found by reflecting God’s grace, mercy, peace and love.
God has restored the original creation order, by placing Jesus over “all things”.
God is offering us His wonderful gift of creation rest by surrendering to Him.
“There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.” (Hebrews 4:9-11)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, my soul longs for this creation rest, a peace that penetrates to my soul. I surrender myself to You, and await Your rest in my soul.

  1. No Jesus =No God.
    Know Jesus = Know God.
But I must become as a small child – believe and accept as a small child, for this knowing. The believing of a small child is all in all, total, absolute, no doubt. This is the Way to Life and Life eternal. To be dependent upon Jesus – not even being able to look after myself, and not even being where I want to be in life – I must surrender all. But in the meantime, in our battles, in our living for Him, He takes our weariness, our struggles, our burdens and enables us to continue our journey. He enables because Jesus is the wind beneath our wings so that we can soar.

    All to Jesus I surrender
All to Him I freely give
I will ever love and trust Him
    In His presence daily live
    All to Jesus I surrender
Humbly at His feet I bow
    Worldly pleasures all forsaken
Take me, Jesus, take me now,
    I surrender all
    I surrender all
All to Thee my blessed Savior
    I surrender all
    All to Jesus I surrender
    Make me Savior wholly thine
May Thy Holy Spirit fill me
May I know Thy power divine
