THE STORY OF JESUS: Romans 7:7-12
“The law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good.” (Romans 7:12)
God’s laws (against murder, adultery, lying, etc) are not bad.
The reason they feel so hard is NOT because the laws are bad, but we are.
Its not the speed limits fault that I am guilty of speeding… its me.
The moral laws of God had to be posted to warn us about breaking them.
Now when we see those laws, and see our own actions, we realize something is wrong.
“I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law.” (Romans 7:7)
The problem is not in the law, it is in me; the laws are there to help me.
Once I realize this, I can stop blaming God for being a killjoy.
God does not frown on adultery because He doesn’t want us to have fun.
He knows that adultery (and all other moral sins) will harm us, and others.
God’s speed limits (laws) are meant to keep us from crashing.
But there is something in me – sin – that propels me towards crashing.
“I would not have known what sin was…”, how many people still don’t know?
Not knowing what sin is, is like not knowing what a land mine is – in a heavily mined field.
People walk through our world oblivious to the deadly poison and destructive power of sin.
People are crashing everyday, totally unaware that “sin” in them is the problem.
We need God to show us our problem, so that we can accept His help over it.
Don’t blame God for His laws, seek Him for His help, we really do need it!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, as long as we ignore or deny the problem of sin, we remain in trouble. Open our eyes to see Your ‘speed limits’ for what they are, ways of protecting and directing us towards life.
