Through the Spirit

THE STORY OF JESUS: Acts 1:1-3
“Giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.” (Acts 1:2)
As the new Adam, the Son of God, Jesus was a Spirit-filled, Spirit-led human.
Everything He did, He did in communion with God, motivated by His Spirit.
Luke (the author) explains how Jesus gave instructions “through the Spirit”.
This is a picture of how we are to be and to act as God’s image-bearers.
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17)
In fellowship with God and Jesus in the Spirit, we also live, learn, serve and speak “through the Spirit”.
Our speaking and serving become “a demonstration of the Spirit’s power.” (1 Corinthians 2:4)
The book of Acts tells the story about how Jesus’ followers receive the Spirit to continue Jesus’ work.
Luke refers to his Gospel as recording “all that Jesus began to do and to teach” (Acts 1:1).
This book records what Jesus CONTINUES to do and to teach through His Spirit-filled followers.
Like Adam and Eve, we have been commissioned to live, to love and to lead like God.
Jesus has shown us how, “through the Spirit”, and now we continue, “through the Spirit”.
The key is being in communion with God and Jesus, encouraged and equipped by the Spirit.
Am I living in relationship with God, with Jesus, by the Spirit living in me?
This is the only way I can do anything like Jesus “through the Spirit”.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I have tried for too long to do or say things in my own strength. Help me to do whatever I do, in word or deed, in fellowship with You, in reliance on Your Spirit.
