The record of His reign!

THE STORY OF JESUS: Esther 6:1-5
“That night the king could not sleep; so he ordered the book of the chronicles, the record of his reign, to be brought in and read to him.” (Esther 6:1)
History is filled with many, many tiny details like “the king could not sleep”.
Wars have been won and lost because of tiny details like this.
Our own lives are filled with such details; I’ve had many sleepless nights.
Waking up sick, missing the train to work, forgetting your wallet, a long wait at the doctors office.
We pass through these moments without much thought, but is there more going on here?
As we read on, we will see that this sleepless night had huge consequences.
We had all but forgotten this incident with Mordecai and the two officers (Esther 2:21-23).
But the author is showing how every detail fits together as part of the master plot.
Who knows how significant the seemingly insignificant things that happen might be.
In fact, we may not know… but God knows, and He is the Master Author.
History is His Story, the plot is unfolding according to plan, His kingdom is coming.
Evil may seem to win for the moment, but God and goodness will triumph in the end.
The next time you have a sleepless night, pick up the book about the One Who does not sleep.
“He will not let your foot slip — he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you — the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm — he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” (Psalm 121:3-8)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, the bible is the record of Your reign, and it reminds us that You are directing all things for Your good purpose.

  1. Observations/Application
    ‘The king could not sleep.’
Sleep is a gift of God. What do I do when I can’t sleep? Praise Him for the gift of sleep which I can do readily. The king read about his reign and we see that he was not only concerned about himself. His thoughts also went to recognize others who had served him well. The king was thoughtful of his subjects.
Haman had played on the king’s pride and made the fatal error.
God is in control even of the smallest matters such as sleep to perform His wonders, His deeds. Not even a hair can fall from my head without His knowledge.
So how is my God leading me and guiding me this day His works to perform. Am I aware of His presence in all things, even in the sleepless nights? Talk to Him not only then but before you lay down to sleep. How has my Lord and my God been present in the happenings of the day?

When we walk with the Lord in the light of his Word
What a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will, he abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
