Don’t be afraid to learn!

Abigail_Adams_Inspirational_Quote_LearningTHE STORY OF JESUS: Luke 9:37-45
“It was concealed from them, so that they might not perceive it.” (Luke 9:45)
The disciples cannot heal this boy, or understand Jesus’ words.
This is not surprising, we still see this among disciples today.
But who is keeping them from understanding what Jesus says?
At one time I thought that it was God preventing them, for some deeper purpose.
But knowing how the deceiver works, also in my own life, I now think it is him.
“In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” (2 Corinthians 4:4)
The deceiver has been holding me back with lies and lures through the years.
Even though I learned lots seminary, I feel like I am still just beginning to understand.
But Jesus keeps on working in me, teaching and training me, though I am slow to learn.
And like the disciples, it may take time, but I am moving in the right direction.
The thing is, Jesus is still teaching me, and Satan is misleading me… but what am I doing?
“Let these words sink into your ears!” (Luke 9:44)
I need to be an active learner, a serious student, open to relearning and changing.
We should not be surprised that we don’t still don’t understand things, or do what Jesus did.
But we should be surprised – and concerned – when we stop trying to learn and grow.
“And they were afraid to ask him about this saying.” (Luke 9:45)
Don’t be afraid to admit you don’t know, don’t be afraid to ask.
It’s the only way we can grow in to the life and teaching of Jesus!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I am still weak as a disciple. I have a lot to unlearn and relearn. The deceiver has been a good concealer… but You are a better Teacher. I choose to keep letting Your words sink into my ears.

  1. Observation/Application
The disciples could not because of their lack of faith? Jesus is the answer and He has he power but all too often we try to go our own way. We don’t see with the eyes of Christ or through His eyes. We follow and yet we hang onto our ways. Ever play follow the leader but wanting to be the leader? To follow means just that – walk in His steps for He know the Way.
Open minds. Open hearts. Open ears. Receptive to His Word. This is the Way. Walk in it. Look where you walk and when in doubt ask Him in prayer. Each day anew, have the upward look as you walk in His Sonshine – as Adam did walking in the garden – walking with the Lord.

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
