THE STORY OF JESUS: Luke 7
“Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?” (Luke 7:19)
John was more confident in the beginning, but now he is experiencing doubt.
He is in prison at this time, and rumours are surprising spreading about Jesus.
Associating with sinners, denouncing the religious leaders, welcoming tax collectors.
Jesus is not living up to the expectations of the Jews, or of John either.
Jesus points to the good things He is doing as proof that He is the one.
He is referring to the prophecies, which speak of the Messiah doing these things.
People today challenge Jesus’ claims as well, doubting His impact on the world.
Despite the fact that many of His followers have failed to live like Him…
The Jesus movement has changed lives, and the world, and made things better in many ways.
In addition to healings throughout history, sinners have been dramatically converted.
Jesus movements of mercy and compassion have covered the earth, and still do.
And equality, human rights and freedom find their roots in how Jesus treated people.
These are NOT developments from any other religion, and definitely not science.
I’m not saying that Christians are responsible for all these things.
But I am saying that Jesus is!!!
Thankfully He has come, and our world is seeing the impact of His coming.

Lord, how little we appreciate how huge Your impact for good in the world has been, and still is. Thank You for continuing to bring good news to all people, whether we appreciate it or not.
