Trust me, and I’ll show you!

THE STORY OF JESUS: Luke 5:1-7
“But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” (Luke 5:5)
Peter and his friends have been fishing for years.
They are expert fishermen, they know the best ways to fish.
How can Jesus, a Rabbi and carpenter by training, know about fishing.
Peter’s response reveals that he is already being swayed by the teacher.
Even though he is a master fisherman, he listens to the Master Teacher.
Even though it goes against what he knows, he does it anyway.
“Because You say so…”, is this how we should respond to Jesus too?
He prompts me to call someone, even though we know they are angry?
He prompts me to pray for someone, even though they hurt me badly?
He prompts me to give twice as much to a cause, even though it is a lot?
He prompts me to say sorry, even though it wasn’t all my fault?
He prompts me to go to church, even though I really don’t feel like it?
He prompts me to change my focus and priorities, even though it will affect me in a big way?
Because You say so, I will do it…
“When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish…” (Luke 5:6)
Hmm, maybe the Master is on to something!
Maybe He has good reason to prompt me to do His will!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, Your will is good. Your purpose is for everyone’s best, mine and others. One day we will see the overflowing net, but for now we live by faith… because You say so, I will do it!

  1. There were many people following Christ so that He taught the people from the boat. This carpenter then told Simon how to fish after a discouraging, frustrating night of nothingness. Although tired, Simon did what the Lord commanded.
And the result . . . beyond words.
And Christ’s word for me today is . . .
    – life eternal
    – never hunger
    – all for Jesus
I too need to take Christ at His Word to be a Jesus follower. Just do. Trust and obey.

When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
    What a glory He sheds on our way;
While we do His good will,
    He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

    Trust and obey,
    For there’s no other way
    To be happy in Jesus,
    But to trust and obey.
