Teach me to pray like THIS!!!

THE STORY OF JESUS: Mark 6:45-52
“After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray.” (Mark 6:46)
Jesus did not walk on water because of His God-nature.
Having emptied Himself of His God-ness, He was human like us (Philippians 2:6-7).
Rather, He was human like we were supposed to be, like Adam before sin.
God put humans in charge of creation, backed by His presence and power.
Before sin, we had authority over creation, over the wind and the waves too.
Jesus lives in close fellowship with God, like we were supposed to.
God does “greater things’ through Him, because He lives in submission to God.
His prayer life reveals His deep love and commitment to God, and God honours that.
We live in fear of creation because we stepped away from God (Genesis 3:8-10).
Living independently from God is what causes fear and misery.
If you want to experience God’s presence and power in you, you need to pray.
Not just ‘ask God for things’, but live in loving fellowship with Him.
When God lives in me, He will do His work through me (John 14:10-14).
God wants to do “greater things” through us too (John 14:2).
But most of all, He wants us to love Him, to seek Him, to rely on Him, to serve Him.
Jesus comes to restore us to our pre-sin, Adam-like life.
Then we will not fear the storms because we will be in authority over them too.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, Your relationship with God is what I want. Teach me to pray like You.

  1. Observations/Application
The multitudes. Jesus sends his disciples away from the ‘mob’ and He sends the ‘mob’ away and goes to pray – up the mountain – like Moses – spend time with the Father. I too need to spend time in my ‘prayer closet’ – my mountain top experience.
In the midst of the ‘storm’ Jesus comes – He passes by until the disciples call Him. So too in the storms of life, Jesus comes when we call out to Him. He answers our invitation. And comforts. ‘It is I’ reminds me of the OT words ‘I am Who I am.’ The ‘I am’ responds to our pleas and takes our fears away. This is a heart condition – the calling. He comes only when we are ready to receive. Pharaoh had a hardened heart and so too the disciples until they let Jesus in.
Lord, I need to spend more time in prayer and open my heart to see You actively working in my daily living for Jesus.

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
    I want to see You
    I want to see You

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
    I want to see You
    I want to see You

To see You high and lifted up
Shinin’ in the light of Your glory
Pour out Your power and love
As we sing holy, holy, holy

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
    I want to see You
