Refusing the Spirit of Jesus

hqdefaultTHE STORY OF JESUS: Mark 3:28-30
“Whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.” (Mark 3:29)
Jesus came to restore creation and humanity.
He came to restore the Spirit of life (Genesis 2:8, John 20:22).
“And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.” (Romans 8:9-11)
To blaspheme means more than having saying bad things about the Spirit of Jesus.
It is the ultimate rejection of all that Jesus represents, a refusal to receive His Spirit.
The religious leaders were becoming hardened to Jesus, identifying Him with Satan.
They were looking goodness/life right in the eye, and calling it evil/death.
I am writing this to encourage anyone who is scared they may have committed this sin.
No worries, if you are open to Jesus, if you wish you could be forgiven, you are.
It is the Spirit of Jesus within you that makes your heart desperate like that.
It is His life in you making you long for life, not death.
Only those who refuse Jesus to the very end will be guilty of an eternal sin.
This is the ultimate rejection, the ultimate blasphemy against the Spirit of Jesus.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, thank You for Spirit Who keeps prompting me back to You. Thank You for Your patience with me, as I slowly open my heart to You.

  1. Observations/Application
    Christ is our All in all. People, as the text states, can be forgiven all their sins. Yet if one hardens his heart such as Pharaoh, then there is no room in the ‘inn’ for the Spirit. If a person refuses upon refusal the workings of the Spirit, then after sometime he will not be able to see the Spirit at work and may think that it is an impure spirit. Not only a hardened heart at work but also eyes that no longer see. How often do we not hear the words, My people have ears but do not hear. They have eyes and do not see. Therefore also the statement ‘He has an impure spirit’ exchanging the truth for a lie. The people were living the lie and did no longer hear Jesus knocking at the door.

    O let me hear thee speaking
    In accents clear and still,
    Above the storms of passion,
    The murmurs of self-will;
    O speak to reassure me,
    To hasten or control;
    O speak, and make me listen,
    Thou guardian of my soul.
