Guilty of 1st degree love

SCRIPTURE: Acts 23:23-35
“There was no charge against him that deserved death or imprisonment.” (Acts 23:29)
As Jesus followers, we should not be guilty of crimes against the state or it’s citizens.
Paul was charged with differing religious beliefs, not with murder or theft.
Similarly, Jesus could not be charged for serious crimes, except devotion to God.
“If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. (1 Peter 4:15-16)
Sometimes a government will outlaw faith in God and Jesus, and we cannot obey then.
But when challenging these laws, we should not use crime or violence to do so.
Our most serious offences should be things like:

  • loving, forgiving and praying for our enemies
  • going the extra mile to serve and bless them
  • sacrificing our time and wealth to help the needy
  • speaking the truth with humility, respect and love
  • paying our taxes, being honest and fair in all financial matters

There should be no charge against us, except faith in Jesus, and love like Jesus.
It is not a shame to suffer for truth, justice and love, it is an honour, and honours God.
If we are accused of too much love, and good deeds, then we can gladly accept the charge: guilty!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, may I be guilty of being too kind, too generous, too compassionate, too much like You.
