Sincerely serving God?

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 141
“But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign Lord.” (Psalm 141:8)
David is in a deadly conflict with ‘the wicked’.
A neighbouring nation attacking, or a rebellious leader in the land.
He contrasts himself with ‘the wicked’, showing God his commitment to doing good.
He prays, he is careful how he speaks, he avoids doing bad things, he does not share in their delights.
He is open to rebuke, willing to change, he really hates wickedness.
“In you I take refuge—do not give me over to death.” (Psalm 141:8)
Is this how God wants us to pray?
God inspires this prayer not because He needs to be reminded of what David is like.
He is giving David the opportunity to express his heart, to be real.
David was actually a sincere servant of God; he is not making empty promises for favours.
Yes, God wants us to be honest, to be sincere… “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24).
Do we sincerely love justice, mercy, kindness, generosity, forgiveness… God knows it.
Do we genuinely hate sin, dishonesty, greed, selfishness, pride… God knows it.
Don’t pretend to be something that you are not, God will see through it.
David’s heart was fixed on God, and was trusting God for help and protection.
Me too?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, You know my heart. Help me grow in my commitment to You, and protect me from whatever would hinder me from doing good.

  1. Observations/Application
Call upon the Lord. Answer me Lord when I call. To You O Lord I lift up my hands.
    May my words always edify.
Keep my heart pure so that my doings are always right.
Let me respond to others with kindness.
Help me daily to walk in the Way.
    Keep my eyes on Jesus.
God is my Refuge and Strength.
He is my Tower of power
and can keep me in the Way.
Stay by my side Lord, always
so I may walk in Your Way
    doing what You desire
    Have Thine own Way Lord.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Thou art the Potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after Thy will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Search me and try me, Master, today!
Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now,
As in Thy presence humbly I bow.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Wounded and weary, help me, I pray!
Power, all power, surely is Thine!
Touch me and heal me, Savior divine.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Hold o’er my being absolute sway!
Fill with Thy Spirit ’till all shall see
Christ only, always, living in me.
