Jesus IS the living word!

SCRIPTURE: Acts 7:30-38
“He received living words to pass on to us.” (Acts 7:38)
Moses received living words from God.
The promises of justice, mercy, forgiveness, hope, victory.
And the promise of a prophet to come who would have God’s words in his mouth (Deuteronomy 18:18).
Jesus is the promised prophet, but unlike Moses He doesn’t receive ‘living words’, He is the Living Word.
He is the justice, mercy, forgiveness, hope, victory in the flesh, embodied and in action.
Stephen is not against Moses, the temple and the Law, but like them, he points to Jesus.
“If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.” (John 5:46)
We use the bible to lead us to Jesus, we meet Him there and He relates to us through it.
You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life. (John 5:39-40)
Reading or studying the bible is not the goal, talking to and hearing from Jesus is.
Are you spending time with Jesus – the Living Word – or just reading the pages of the book?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, thank You that I could meet You through Stephen’s words, just like he did through Moses’ words. That You for the promises that You bring, and for the hope and joy that You bring!
