God’s Chosen One!

SCRIPTURE: John 1:29-34
“The Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29)
“The one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.” (John 1:33)
“This is God’s Chosen One.” (John 1:34)

Each one of these claims is remarkable.
There is no hesitation for John – Jesus is the hope of the world.
If we don’t realize how sin enslaves us, or how powerless we are to break free, we will not appreciate this.
Our moral and spiritual bondage (sin) separates us from the life and power of God (Spirit), and life becomes hopeless, powerless.
Just looking at the first three steps of A.A. shows how alcoholics do realize their desperate situation.

1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable.
2. Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

God has chosen to come to all peoples’ rescue through Jesus – His Chosen One.
He breaks the grip of sin, defeats the power of Satan, and overcomes the curse of death.
By giving us the Spirit of God, we are restored to hope and power.
Like John, like desperate alcoholics, we need to surrender ourselves to God’s Chosen One.
We need Him to set us free from the power of sin, we need Him to restore to us the power of God.
Will you make this decision?
Will you join John in testifying that Jesus is God’s Chosen One, for you too?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, impress on me experientially how desperate life is without You. Then impress on me experientially how hopeful and powerful life is with You, because of Jesus!

  1. Observation/Application
John, an instrument of His peace.
John, being Spirit driven, speaking the truth about the Saviour of the world.
John, lead by the Spirit, spoke the truth. He spoke the words given to him.
    And
    being Spirit driven,
    John could also see.
    Really see.
Therefore he was an instrument of His peace.
Make me an instrument Lord so that I too speak what I need to speak.
Use me this day Your Way.

Make me a servant, humble and meek
Lord, let me lift up, those who are weak.
    And may the pray’r of my heart always be;
Make me a servant, make me a servant,
    Make me a servant, today.
