Investing in God’s kingdom!

SCRIPTURE: Jeremiah 32-35
Jerusalem is under siege, everything looks hopeless.
Yet Jeremiah is encouraged to buy property in the doomed city.
We can continue to invest in this world, in this life, because God will set things straight!
‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will fulfill the good promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah. In those days and at that time I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line; he will do what is just and right in the land.’ (Luke 33:14-15)
Jesus is our assurance that God will do this!
He has taken on the powers of sin, death and hell – and won!
He is in charge of the Universe, and He is rebuilding God’s kingdom.
Based on this promise, we can live life each day with hope that a better world is coming.
Wars may be fought, economies collapse, disasters may strike, loved ones may die – but Jesus has overcome all of this forces, and guaranteed our victory too.
Jeremiah makes it clear that God may allow us to go through seasons of trials and testing, but He will restore us in the end; buy that land, invest in this world, for your investment will not be wasted!
This is why we continue to love and serve and bless people, because we know God will use it to help them.
Our stand for justice is not wasted, our stand for equality, for life, for God’s kingdom is not in vain.
“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I do not need to be gloomy, or despair that my work will be wasted. As dark as things get, my labour is not in vain. My investment in the land will pay off!

  1. Observations/Application
The Word comes to Jeremiah while he was captive. God is working at all times through His people His wonders to perform even in difficult times. He sees all. But do His people see His mighty hand?
The people did evil in the sight of the Lord. Each went their own way and went after other gods. Yet the Lord did gather His people time and time again. They/I need singleness of heart fearing the Lord God of of Israel in all what we do. Daily I need to call upon the name of the Lord. The works of our hands need to reflect His glory and the wonders He has done. Then there will be joy for each day I need to live with thankfulness in my heart and songs of joy for God is my God who is with His people always. His love endures forevermore.
As the Word came to Jeremiah time and time again, so too His Word comes to me time and time again. Open my ears Lord so that I listen and do Your Word. Word and Deed go together. Listen and do. Serve the Lord with gladness all the time.

My life is in You Lord
My strength is in You Lord
My hope is in You Lord
In You, It?s in You (repeat)

I will praise You with all of my life
I will praise You with all of my strength
    With all of my life
    With all of my strength
All of my hope is in You!
