But God, You said…

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 89
The basic idea of this Psalm is reminding God about His promises.
“You said, ‘I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant, I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations.'” (Psalm 89:3-4)
“If his sons forsake my law… I will punish their sin… but I will not take my love from him, nor will I ever betray my faithfulness.” (Psalm 89:30-34)
“But you have rejected, you have spurned, you have been very angry with your anointed one. You have renounced the covenant with your servant and have defiled his crown in the dust. (Psalm 89:38-39)
“Lord, where is your former great love, which in your faithfulness you swore to David?” (Psalm 89:49)
Have you ever felt that God let you down?
I think of times when my kids responded to me with, ‘But Dad, you said…’
I have never felt this way, but I like how God inspires Ethan the Ezrahite to write this.
To be this bold with God, to throw His promises back at Him and ask for a response!
So what happened here, did God break His promise?
The short answer is no, God did not break His promise.
Jesus the promised Son of David came, and His kingdom will last forever.
In other words, it may take a long time, and it may involve a time of severe hardship or suffering.
But God says something, He means it, and He will stay true to it, even if we fail Him.
“Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself. (2 Timothy 2:11-13)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I will sing of Your great love forever; with my mouth I will make Your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that Your love stands firm forever, that You have established your faithfulness in heaven itself. Praise be to the Lord forever! Amen and Amen.

  1. Observation/Application
    Songs.
    The psalmist sings of the Lord’s love forever.
    May I too continue to sing songs of praise and love and faithfulness each day anew for there is no god as my God and King and His faithfulness and love and dominion endures forever and ever upon the promises He has made.
    Just look at His creation.
    He rules!
    I can only be GodStrong when I walk in His SonShine each day anew. ChristStrong.
    He has promised to be faithful and has never failed His promises and I need to stand upon those promises whatever befalls. He is the wind beneath my wings and will lift me up.
    Today is a new day and once again, with all creation, I must raise my voice in praise to His faithfulness and power and majesty for He has done great things . . . He has given me Life.

    To God be the glory, great things He hath done,
    So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
    Who yielded His life our redemption to win,
    And opened the life-gate that all may go in.

    Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
    Let the earth hear His voice;
    Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
    Let the people rejoice;
    Oh, come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
    And give Him the glory; great things He hath done.

    Oh, perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
    To every believer the promise of God;
    The vilest offender who truly believes,
    That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

    Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
    And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
    But purer, and higher, and greater will be
    Our wonder, our transport when Jesus we see.
