The greatest gift of all

SCRIPTURE: Song of Solomon 1-9
This is a Jewish love song; I am not really sure what I hear God saying in it.
Some see this as an allegory, symbolic of the love between Christ and the Church.
Others see it as a celebration of the gift of love, a beautiful gift from God.
Maybe its a bit of both, a love story that also illustrates our relationship with God.
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.” (Ephesians 5:25-27)
Love – whether in marriage or friendship – is essential to being human.
“It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” (Genesis 2:18)
Though not everyone is called to be married (Matthew 19:10-12), no one should stand alone.
We were made for fellowship, for love, and apart from it we will die.
Mother Theresa observed: ‘The greatest disease in the West today is not TB or leprosy; it is being unwanted, unloved, and uncared for.’
I guess I hear God reminding me of the precious gift of love in my life…
… and to remember those who do not experience it, to do my part to cure them from this disease.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, thank You for reminding me of Your love, but also of the love I enjoy with my family and friends. Open my heart to those who need to be loved, to be wanted, to be cared for. Help me share the love I enjoy!
