SCRIPTURE: Luke 8:26-33
There is something wrong in our world.
Despite all that is beautiful and good, something always seems to poison it.
Demons of scandal, violence, addiction, abuse, tragedy, illness, death.
Our world seems possessed by a demonic Legion times gazillion.
I can’t explain how the demons in this story worked.
But I do see a connection with this man and our collective world experience.
Our world is demon-oppressed and demon-possessed, driven by impure spirits.
Look around: how many lives have come undone, how many are in bondage?
Despite technological, scientific and economic advancements, more and more people take their own lives, or depend on medication to get them through the day.
When I look at the world, and at the people of this world, I do see the beauty and goodness originally created by God, but I also see it scarred and marred by evil, ugliness, brokenness, misery, despair.
There is something wrong in the world, and in us… we need help!
Today’s reading reminds me that the problem is much bigger than me – legion times gazillion!
And Jesus comes on the scene like a light in the darkness: “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.” (Isaiah 9:2)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
God, our world is like a graveyard, and we are like desperate people trying to survive with all our demons. We need help, I need help. We need Jesus to deal with our demons too.
