Doing what we can!

SCRIPTURE: Luke 7:11-17
“When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her…” (Luke 7:13)
When you see someone in need, someone suffering or grieving or struggling, does your heart go out to them?
Mine does, but many a time I have wished I could do what Jesus did, really help them.
Raising a dead person, or healing a sick person, is apparently not within my spiritual giftings.
I know, I’ve tried (that is, desperately prayed that God would do it – heal, restore to life).
I do what I can – pray, encourage, walk alongside, assist in practical ways – but it hasn’t resulted in healing or life.
When we do this, we are like Jesus: our heart goes out to them, and we do what we can (Jesus did what He could!)
God hasn’t sent us to heal every sick person, or raise every dead person, but He has sent us to care.
God may choose to heal or raise someone through us – I’ve heard of it happening – but that is His decision.
My job is to open my heart, to make myself available, to do what I can, and to let God do what He can.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
God, when I am with someone suffering, it really bothers me that I can’t do more to help. I know it’s Your decision whether You heal or not, but could You please work a miracle through me, at least once?

  1. Observations/Application
As Christ’s heart went out to the mother so too our hearts need compassion to those who are grieving. There are times that I too would have said, ‘Get up and walk.’ Yet Christ is the only One Who is able to do this. I just need to be there – bringing comfort – weeping with those who are weeping. Showing compassion.

I also see this as a reminder that it is in Christ Jesus we have Life sand Life eternal. Christ gives us the power to live and talk. What a Saviour. Christ gave the boy back to the mother reminding us all that Life is only a possibility in His power. He enables. He makes people GodStrong. LiveStrong for Jesus.

    Prayer
Thank You once again Lord that You remind me that my life is in You. Help me this day to LiveStrong in Jesus’ name.

When He comes, our glorious King,
All His ransomed home to bring,
Then anew His song we’ll sing:
    Hallelujah! What a Savior!
